About US People Search
Last reviewed: September 25, 2026
US People Search is a free lookup service for United States phone numbers and email addresses. Enter a number and you get two kinds of answer on one screen: who the number most likely belongs to, and whether that number carries any of the compliance flags that matter before a call is placed.
What the service does
A single reverse phone lookup returns seven signals:
- Owner information - the most likely owner's name, age, current and previous addresses, and related people.
- Federal DNC status - whether the number is on the National Do Not Call Registry.
- State DNC status - whether the number is on a state-run do-not-call list, for the states that operate one.
- TCPA litigator status - whether the number matches a known Telephone Consumer Protection Act plaintiff, shown as a possible or confirmed match.
- Litigator by owner - whether a potential owner of the number is flagged, even when the number itself is clean.
- Blacklist status - whether the number appears on caller suppression lists.
- Line details - the state the number is registered in.
A reverse email lookup checks whether an email address is valid, returns its potential owners with their addresses and phone numbers, and flags any owner who matches a TCPA litigator record.
Who uses it
Two very different groups, for two different reasons.
Consumers use it to find out who is behind a number that called them, to check an unfamiliar email address, or to see whether their own number is on the National Do Not Call Registry.
Outbound teams - call centers, lead buyers, sales operations and the compliance staff who support them - use it to check a number before dialing. A clean DNC result is not the same as a safe number to call: people who file TCPA lawsuits often keep their numbers off the registry precisely so that calls keep coming. This lookup returns the DNC status and the litigator status together, because either one alone is an incomplete answer.
Where the data comes from
Registry status comes from compliance data sources that carry federal and state do-not-call registry data. Litigator and blacklist signals come from compliance data providers and public court records. Owner information is compiled from publicly available and commercially available records. Our methodology page describes each source at the category level, how we keep it current, and what we deliberately do not cover.
Why it is free
There is no signup, no credit card and no credit system. The service is supported by advertising. To keep it available to everyone, automated and unusually heavy use is limited; a person checking numbers in the normal way will not notice.
US data only
We cover United States numbers and addresses only. International numbers return no result rather than a guess.
What we are not
US People Search is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and the information we provide is not a consumer report. You may not use this site to make decisions about employment, housing, credit, insurance or any other purpose covered by the FCRA. Our Terms of Use set this out in full.
Nothing on this site is legal advice. A lookup result does not create a safe harbor under the TCPA, the Telemarketing Sales Rule or any state law. If you run outbound campaigns, your compliance obligations remain yours.
Corrections and removals
Records can be wrong, and people can have good reasons to want their details out of lookup results. Our opt-out and data removal page explains how to ask for a number or email to be removed from results and how to report a wrong litigator or blacklist match. Every request is reviewed by a person before anything changes. For anything else, contact us.
